Assi Ghat

Assi Ghat is the southernmost of the 88 ghats in Varanasi, situated where the Assi River meets the Ganga. The name "Assi" is derived from the Sanskrit word "Ashi" (अशि), meaning a sword — legend says Goddess Durga threw her sword here after slaying the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha. It is one of the most popular and lively ghats in the city.

Sunrise & Cultural Hub

Assi Ghat is famous for its breathtaking sunrise views and the morning Subah-e-Banaras — a cultural program featuring classical music, yoga, and Ganga Aarti. The ghat has a youthful, bohemian energy and is a favourite among travellers seeking a more relaxed, less crowded Varanasi experience.

Nearby Attractions

The area around Assi Ghat is vibrant with cafés, art galleries, and bookshops. It serves as a gateway to exploring the southern part of Varanasi and is well-connected to the rest of the city. Many visitors choose to stay near Assi Ghat for its accessibility and atmosphere.
